Public Health England is advising the public to ensure they have had 2 doses of MMR vaccine after outbreaks of measles are confirmed across England and Europe.

Anyone who has not received 2 doses of MMR vaccine is at risk. Measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can sometimes lead to serious complications and can be fatal in very rare cases.

Travellers to Europe are advised to ensure they are up to date with measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine before travelling, in particular to Romania, Italy, Greece, Germany and France where there are currently large outbreaks.

Young people attending environments such as festivals are also at risk. Music festivals “pose an ideal opportunity for the infection to spread quickly” Anyone with symptoms is advised to stay away from music festivals.

If you would like to discuss your MMR status, please make an appointment to speak to a member of our Practice Nurse team.
