Prescriptions

When requesting medication, your prescription request needs to be received, reviewed, processed, and signed before it is sent to your nominated pharmacy for dispensing. 

No prescriptions are actioned or processed on weekends or bank holidays.

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

• Using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
• You can ring 01434 230986 which is our prescription message line - leave your name, date of birth, required items and nominated pharmacy.
• Use the right-hand side of your script; state which item you want and place this is in the post box at either surgery or hand it in to a member of staff.

Please do not make repeat prescription requests via email.

Please allow 7 days process time for your prescription to be authorised and issued by your nominated pharmacy/the dispensary. 

The pharmacy where you usually get your medication from is known as your nominated pharmacy (you are known as a dispensing patient if you get your medication from the Surgery). If you would like to change your nominated pharmacy, please let us know and we can arrange this. 

If you need a prescription sent to a different pharmacy as a one-off, please contact us with the name and address of the desired pharmacy and we can electronically send your prescription to any pharmacy in England. 

Various local pharmacies offer a home delivery service. To arrange this, contact your Nominated pharmacy direct.

We offer a dispensing service for patients who live more than a mile from a chemist or if you prefer we can send prescriptions to a chemist for you (this covers both repeat and acute prescriptions).

We offer a home delivery service for patients who may struggle to collect from surgery aswell as dropping prescriptions off at Foursrones Garage and  Barrasford shop. – Please ask for more information at the Surgery.

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

• Fill in our medication query form.
• Book an appointment with our pharmacist
• Call 01434 230986 or leave a message and a dispenser will get back to you.

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

• coughs
• colds
• sore throats
• tummy trouble
• aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.

The Surgery may offer you a referral through the Pharmacy First Scheme.
